We have had much going on in the Burkhardt household, but it's been fun being together as a family. I love when God gives us blessings and I always love when God gives our own children a blessing.
Drew's birthday was on June 30th and, of course, he received gifts and money. Aaron has been teaching him when he gets money that he can tithe some, spend some, and then save the rest. So, we have a little envelope system going for him. He received a certain amount for his birthday and he and Aaron sat down and went through what needed to be tithed, how much he could spend, and then put the rest away. As we were heading to the store to pick out what he wanted to buy, Drew told Alyssa that he was going to buy her a toy with his money. Aaron seized the moment and began praising him and we told him that Jesus was very pleased with his action and will bless him for it. He was kinda confused about how God blesses you and so Aaron began to explain to him. I still don't think he fully understood, but the lesson was taught. We got to the store and Alyssa picked out a $5 item and Drew didn't hesitate to buy it for her. The day ended with everyone happy and satisfied with their new toys.
On Tuesday the mail came and there was another card in the mail for Drew, and yep, you guessed it, there was $5 in the card. The Lord had given him back exactly what he had spent on his sister. It doesn't end there though. About a week later we received another card in the mail for him, with another $5 in it. God blessed abundantly!! He was pretty excited and shared his story with Grandma of what Jesus did for him.
As Aaron and I look back at the whole situation we knew it was the Lord's work teaching not only Drew, but us. The first card he received was from someone who called and told me they had forgotten to mail his card out and it would be late. The second card that was a whole week late was originally sent on time, but the sender had written something wrong on the address so it was returned to them and had to be resent.
