Don't tell daddy!

This is Drew's famous saying lately when he is in trouble. No matter how many times I tell him daddy and I don't keep secrets from each other and it doesn't work that way in our house his crying plea is, "Please don't tell daddy."

Grandma Burkhardt gave me money to buy the kids Christmas gift from them as always. Last week I went and picked up Drew's gift and put it in our mud room until I could get it over to Grandma so she could wrap it. Drew knew it was there and we had told him he could not open the bag and look or we would take it back. He did well until the following day. I came back from a shopping excursion and Drew happened to be the first in the door. Knowing the gift was right there I yelled to him and he came out the door with his hands covering his eyes (as if he was totally innocent) and here is how it went down......

Drew: I didn't look at it mommy

Me: (coming in the door) Why is the bag pulled off the present, Drew?

Drew: I don't know. I think I walked into it and it came off.

Me: You looked at it didn't you?

Drew: No, mommy I didn't.

Me: What's in it?

Drew: Army stuff.

Me: So, you did look at it.

Drew: No, I didn't. Please don't tell daddy!

Me: Don't tell daddy what, Drew?

Drew: That I looked at the present.

And the conclusion of the story is, Drew with no present and being taken care of by daddy when he got home for lying.

LOL... this reminded me of the old "I Love Lucy" episodes. She's always trying to hide information from Ricky, and she always lets it slip anyway. :) I guess at least if Drew was going to lie, at least he's not very good at it, and you were able to deal with it right away. I had taught enough kids in school to know there are some who were so good at lying, they'd made it into almost an art form. You never knew if they were telling the truth or not, so you usually assumed they weren't. LOL... They're so cute, but those dirty little black hearts still manifest themselves anyway. :) Hopefully, he learned his lesson. :)
