Tonight we are having a jr. church party at our house. We mentioned it several weeks ago in class and the kids have been counting the days down. The kids are making their own calzones, the girls are going to bake cut-out cookies, and the boys have some games planned outside along with a bonfire.
Today I took Drew grocery shopping with me. He is always such a huge help with getting the groceries in the back of the truck and then unloading them for me. It gives us time alone too:0) Well, before we went shopping I stopped at the bank to get some money out. The teller saw Drew in the back and yelled, "Happy Halloween". Drew had no clue what she was talking about. He has seen a lot of decorations up but we never really told him anything about it. The lady gave me my money and told me to wait because he was there first trick or treater. Drew gladly took the candy, but I could tell was a little puzzled by what she was saying. So, I began to explain him what it was all about and why daddy and I don't celebrate Halloween. He understood and then replied with, "Well, all that candy would make you get sick anyway."
We headed to Target for a quick stop and the cashier girl asked Drew what he was going to be for Halloween. Drew told her politely that we weren't going trick or treating and she took it well. She then began to tell me that she never went as a child. I told her we didn't either. I think I remember once going just to our neighbors. She then began to tell me her dad was a pastor and told Drew that it was good he was not celebrating Halloween and that Christmas was right around the corner and he can celebrate Jesus birthday then. It was kind of neat b/c I had just explained Halloween to him in the car and then talked about Christmas with him and Jesus birthday.
